French Country Townhouse Tour

Welcome to my French Country Townhome! This is the house we recently moved into and we’ve been working feverishly to make it feel like home. When you’ve lived in a family home for 20 years and it’s pretty much “all done”, and then you suddenly move to a new home that needs all the personal details added, it’s hard to be patient and slowly build the character that took so long to develop in your last home. Come for a visit to see what we've added...
Our home is a townhouse that's pretty close to brand new, with large windows and high ceilings but it really needed to have personality added. I wanted a "wow factor" entry, so the first thing you see when you walk through the front door is an antique French bar server.
My style is influenced by French Country, but I like to add some edgy touches to keep it fresh looking. The living room makes use of interesting pattern mixes, as well as vintage pieces coexisting with crisp new items.
Our study also is characterized by a unique mix, this time a feminine French desk and chair balanced by a more masculine farmhouse bookcase.
The family room is a work in progress, but it's the room most used and is dominated by a large modern sectional sofa. Still, many of the accessories are French influenced, with various antiques scattered about. We added a new mantel with an antique mirror above it.
Our kitchen is the room I'm about to renovate, not because it "needs" it so much as because the dark palette doesn't work with the rest of our house. With an existing good layout and decent quality materials, we will be doing more of a re-face than ripping everything out.
The adjoining breakfast area is more in line with what I hope for my kitchen, with a wall of windows and plenty of space, it is punctuated by a vintage chandelier. It's calling out to have a white kitchen attached to it... ;-)
The dining room is a space I use a lot, as I like to entertain. It bears a rosy glow enhanced by the blush toned walls and the playful florals.
Next to the dining room we added a butler's pantry in a space that used to be a storage closet. If you're interested in the details of any of these rooms, the link at the bottom of this post will take you to a page that links to each room explored in greater depth (with sourcing information, as well).
The powder room is a quintessential French Country space, with toile wallpaper and gilded accessories. Here, too, you will find antique details (from a little table to a lantern light fixture).
For the back entry, I wanted to keep the style of the rest of the house, so it's more French foyer than practical mudroom. Our kids are grown and this works perfectly for us!

I also have a tour of the home we moved from last year, so you can compare what we kept and how differently some things are used. That tour you can visit at this link: Old Family House Tour
