Anyone know how to get stuck backing from a rug up

In our guest bathroom, I went to pick up the rug in front of the toilet, for some reason it had stuck so bad to the floor, that when I picked it up, it left all the rubber stuck to the floor. Not just a light coating of it, it's an ugly textured mess. Any one have ideas on how to remove this without hurting the floor. I have attached a photo of the mess.

What is underneath it? a vinyl floor or stones? Did you try to put a damp cloth on it for a moment?

I would try dabbing a little cooking oil on the backing, rubbing in until it loosens enough for you to gently scrape it off.

Try WD40 excellent for removing gooey messes.

WD40. It will come straight off and no damage done

It could be helpful to use a 3" wide putty knife when using the WD40 to help spread it around and after a short while use it to gently scoop up the mess before cleaning after.

I had to gently scrape it up from a linoleum tile floor with a thin putty knife.

Yes..WD40 is my go to for lots of problem solvers.....have a can under the kitchen sink and Bath room sink...I always ask for WD for Bday and Christmas gifts......
