I will have to try this!:

I will have to try this!: Pinner:Baking soda neutralizes the ph in the soil and nothing will grow there. I use baking soda in a 6" wide area around all of the edges of my flower beds to keep the grass and weeds from growing into my beds. Just sprinkle it onto the soil so that it covers it lightly. I usually have to do this twice a year - spring and fall.

I have used plain old white cheap vinegar to get rid of growth between the asphalt of the street and the concrete curb. I also sprayed it on things that come up in my yard. It will kill sod, so I stopped using it on the sod.

Interesting. How much baking soda do you use?

Does this work? I don't understand the concept. Plants grow across a wide range of soil pH, including neutral.

Good old table salt works - use plenty of it on a dry surface, then lightly water it in. Kills vegitation for up to a year. Also gets rid of soft membrain pests. (worms/Slugs)

Would baking soda help remove the greenish growth on a shady, wet area of our flagstone path? It's getting so bad that I'm starting to slip when I walk on it.

Melissa, salt or vinegar (or both) should work for that slick mossy stuff.
