How to Build Simple Garden Benches for Free

The simplest bench
This first redwood bench, shown at the left, was built from one 2 x 8 board about ten feet long. Two legs are cut, each 14 inches long, positioned about 10-12 inches in from the ends and nailed straight down from the seat of the bench. a two x four was nailed underneath for support. Little did I know that this bench was designed by a famous man.
Little did I know that this bench was designed by a famous man, Aldo Leopold.
A bench designed to lean against a tree. This design is ALSO by Aldo Leopold, but I saw it in someone's front garden and remembered it for a long time before we actually made it.
This is a simple bench using logs for legs....easy!

I had my son make me a bench years ago, using 2x4's and 2 tree stumps. It's very comfortable to sit on. We still use it. I've painted it only 2 times because I like color in my yard. It's withstood the test of time wonderfully!
