Some Visitors to Our Garden

We have an abundance of wildlife here in the mountains in Australia. Our garden abuts bushland and the birdlife and other critters that visit the garden make it a very special place. Here are just two of the visitors to our garden. I try to ensure that there is accessible water for the birds and lizards that visit the garden. In the back yard I have two pot saucers with water and rocks in for the smaller birds set down low on tree stumps so they can reach easily for those birds that prefer the undergrowth and for any visiting lizards. This lizard was a regular visitor last summer. Probably hibernating now as it is winter.
Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. These are also common around Sydney suburbs and not specific to the mountains
Sulphur Crested Cockatoos on the front garden bird bath.
Don't freak out - this is not a snake! See the little legs at the front! This is actually a Blotched Blue Tongued Lizard.
Same lizard - handsome fellow. I think he would be about 18 inches long. He is good for eating all the snails in the garden.

Hi Anna, I think sometimes when people buy birds they don't realise how long the bird can live - no idea of their lifespan - and how much commitment is required. I hope poor Molly is happy in her new home. Sounds like you have your hands full with her!

Sad to report that this lizard came out of hibernation in this last week or so - (we have had a summer like start to our spring season), and don't know if it was hit by a car, but we found it dead on the gravel road. Cannot see any damage to the creature, but definitely dead.
