Bead board failure

First let me thank Hometalk for my very successful projects. This time I thought I didn't need help. I wanted to replace 36" formica with bead board. We removed the chair rail & molding with no problem. Then we tried to attach composite beadboard to the formica with liquid nails panel & foam adhesive. It didn't work. I guess we missed a few important steps. I hope we don't have to remove the formica. I need help.

The laminate material is to shiny for the adhesive to bite into the surface. I suggest that you use a air powered finish nail gun to hold the panels into place. Use the adhesive as well. This type of glue oftentimes requires something to hold the wood into place until it sets. And with the shiny surface of the laminate this time is often extended for quite a long time.

I guess it will be impossible to remove the formica without taking most of the wall off. Shortcuts sometimes don't work.

I agree with the nail gun...1 1/2" 18 gauge would be my first choice...putty and paint for the nail holes.

if the laminate was installed as it should have been, your correct, it will not come off without damage to the wall.

Everything in the home was installed by professionals so I'm sure I'd have to tear down the wall to get it off. Boo hoo. However, we do have a very nice nail gun that was recommended by Hometalk people. Might just put it to use. Thank you for your suggestions.
