How to turn broken drawer spaces into cubby holes?

I notice some of you making the space where the drawers use to be into cubby holes and some with baskets in there. How are you finishing off the insides? I have drove right by some kewl dressers with some of the drawers missing. Because im not sure how to finish the inside of the area. Thank you for any help. Here is a pic of one i found on pinterest.

i wished it was something i made.. found it on pinterest. Im not sure hoe they're finishing out the inside of those holes.

If the "hole" left by the drawer doesn't have a nice finish, you can cut pieces of luaun (thin plywood, relatively inexpensive) and install before painting. Lining with wallpaper, fabric, or decoupage are other possibilities.

You can always paint it a contrast color, or a muted color if you want the baskets to be a focal point. Mabe paint the baskets bright color to coordinate your room color. All depends on the finish and how bad or good it is. Go for it.
