Hey, @Isis Alayola ! I know whet you mean. Sometimes, bad smell is due to low quality shoes. The manterials they are made of "suffocates" the feet skin, thus the unpleasant odour. If it is summer, you can solve the problem by having them put on lighter, open shoes. In case, this is a more serious problem. I could recommend you an old-fashioned remedy. My dad's feet used to smell so much that we could sense him entering the house from very far away. What my mum did was make him soak his feet in vinegar-water solution every day (15 minutes a day) for two weeks. Slowly, the smell faded. Afterwards they repeated the procedure less frequently. Honestly, this works, if you are willing to give it a try.

I know some people just throw them in the washer machine, although it does depend what type of shoes they are. Another options that many people do is put it in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer. They say that the cold temperature kills bacteria.

If washing won't work because of the type of shoe, try sprinkling some Gold Bond Powder in the shoe and have the kids powder their feet after a bath. Had this problem with both my sons and my MIL suggested this solution which worked quite well.

First put them in the freezer, it kills the bacteria. Then spray with Lysol after they thaw out...works great on sports gear that are unable to be washed.

If your children have issues with foot odor, you can have them soak their feet in cool tea (no sugar needed). It sounds strange but it works.

Removing dead skin from the feet helps too. A good remover is 1/4 cup Listerine..1/4 cup vinegar..and 1/2 cup water. Increase amount until soles of the feet are covered. Soak for fifteen minutes and dead skin will rub off. The soles of off the feet have a huge amount of swear glands and when dead skin is on the soles the smell can be terrible..I use this method every spring before I bring out my sandals. I used to fill my sons shoes with newspaper and this took the smell away. Hope this helps.

the listerine trick, haven't tried it, but a fb friend said to make sure you don't use the blue listerine. Her feet turned blue! lol

@Isis Alayola you have received a lot of good advice here all of which will help - the tea soaks do help. One other action that will assist is by having more than one pair of shoes. Alternate which ones are worn and sprinkle with a powder meant to reduce odor (baking soda is not good for leather shoes, makes them dry out and disintegrate). When I had this problem, I found that the Melaleuca foot spray on my feet and in my shoes helped a lot. It also had a cooling effect. http://www.melaleuca.com/ProductStore/ProductDetail.aspx?sku=9754 No I am not a sales rep and I no longer have to use it regularly - maybe a couple of times a year, but by using it regularly for a period of time the problem seemed to go away, as well as alternationg the shoes I wore - never the same ones two days in a row. Good luck.

@BeckyJ I did use blue Listerine and my feet did turn blue but found out after scrubbing my feet all the blue disappeared. It only turned the dead skin blue. Under the blue was nice pink skin.

Spray Natures Miracle and dry for a couple of days. It is for pet stains, but the enzymes break down the bacteria and the smell is gone. It also works on hockey pads.

Stuff the shoes every night with crumpled newspaper. After a few days, you should be able to go 2 nights, then 3 etc.

The smell is usually from sweaty feet. There is an antiperspirant called 'Certain Dry.' It is made for underarms (I use it during the summer.), but can be used on feet also. I probably wouldn't use it on young children, but if they are preteen or teens, use it on the bottom of the feet. It closes off the sweat glands in that area. No sweat, usually no smell. One word of caution. Use one very small swipe in just one area & gradually build up to more. It really works, but make sure that there is no problem with irritation. When I use this, I only have to use it every few days to keep the perspiration & odor gone.

Boric Acid...I know, it sounds terrible, but it really works! I use to have that problem, when I was young, and my feet and shoes were horrible! I worked in an office and wore nylons everyday, which added to my feet sweating. My Mom finally told me to try Boric Acid. I said, "won't that eat up my nylons?" Mom laughed and said "no". You can find it at pharmacies or in the phamaceutical areas of department stores. It's also inexpensive! Just dust some powder in your shoes and tap your shoes back and forth so the powder covers the entire inside sole of your shoes. Do it daily, if necessary, until the smell in your shoes is gone. Good luck!
