Cottage Decorating

What decorating ideas do you use to add cottage character to your home? I love beadboard. Our dining room is lighter, brighter, and more cottage-y since we added beadboard paneling around the room.

Hi @Lauren Little - sorry that I took so long to reply! This hutch has been through the wringer with me! It had a dark walnut finish when we got it and I painted over that finish (black paint). When I recently re-painted the hutch, I sanded everything, including the buffet top. I didn't sand it evenly, so some of the original black walnut stain was still visible in spots, and bare wood was also visible in spots. I wanted it to look a little more uniform, so I stained the entire top with dark walnut (minwax). The uneven sanding is what gave it an aged look. Also, the wood is soft and had lots of character (knicks and scratches - lol!) so that definitely helped make it look aged! Hope this helped!
