Vintage Sewing Table to Nightstand Makeover

I didn’t want to buy a brand new nightstand unless it came with a whole new bedroom set. Since that wasn’t going to happen, I began the year long task of dragging furniture up and down three flight of stairs but nothing worked. Nothing until I tried the vintage sewing table my grandma gave me.
The size and scale of the vintage sewing table was good. I just needed to add storage and give it a makeover.
I painted the body linen white to coordinate with the rest of our bedroom furniture and replaced the wood top with pallet wood.
I wanted to add wood to the recessed panel on the front of the table. I drove myself crazy trying to figure out what to use as the recessed panel was very narrow. You will never guess what I finally came up with – paint stirrers! They were the perfect depth for the panel, and I had a bunch from all the cans of paint I buy. I just trimmed off the curved part of the stirrers, stained them and glued them into place.
For storage, Big Daddy replaced the sewing drawer with a cubby and it is much more functional now. You can see more pictures on the blog.
Suggested materials:

The new night table is quite unrecognizable from its former sewing cabinet. I bet you saved a couple of hundred dollars because you transformed it yourself, and got a new piece of furniture that matches exactly to your bedroom decor.
