Yep, I did this. Eggshells are just like porcelane, very sturdy and I am using a dental air tool and diamond and carbide burrs to do this with.

I have tutorials available like a web site. From A to Z including what tools to use, safety and how to set up your work area. Also included are links as to where to buy the materials and the eggshells. If you ever need it and like to try, let me know.

This is what tremendous talent, clear conscience and a steady hand can do! I repeat, Carla, you're amazing. I wish I had 1/2 the talent you do.

Yes they can be carved with a fine hand held dental tool used in the lab to work on dentures. The only thing one has to watch out for is the fine dust it creates, especially when using diamond burrs. I use an air cleaner next to me to take care of this. Wouldn't attempt it without one.

Hi Becky, talent is not just in the art metier, each of us has a talent and in different areas. Some are more admired than others. If we all would be talented in the same way, the world would be boring as heck.

I didn't learn this, I just did it. I wanted a power carver to do some engraving on glass. I have done glass custom glass work. While looking through the website where I wanted to order the power carver from, I run across my first look at egg carving. One day I decided to just try carving an ostrich egg. The Blackfoot Indian on Horse back above is my first carving. Yes, I sell those eggs and I do custom work. The wolfs is custom work and others I have not posted as well. Captain Sparrow is sold and so are the raccoons.

I don't think gold hands, more like good eye hand coordination ... lol ... sometimes using a magnifying glass too to see the fine work.

Not really impossible. An ostrich eggshell is about 1/8" thick more or less and I have the tools to do it with. It's sturdy too, like a plate or cup. I know it looks fragile but really isn't. I have shipped those carved eggs and they arrived in top shape.
