the door faces the morning and noon sun so it does get rather hot. the beginning of spring we noticed the paint was peeling severely. my husband stripped the door down to the bare metal but now doesn't know what to use to keep this from happening again. there are no windows on this door. any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have a storm door with glass over the door the temperature can get 180 degrees or more between the doors. Make sure that the glass on the storm door is changed to screen when the weather is hot.
  • How the metal gets refinished depends upon the metal the door is made of, Aluminum requires special primers, steel the same. However you cannot simply use a latex paint and expect it to last. Special paints such as Rustoleum is suggested. Their paint line is designed to be used on metals. But remember the door needs to be sanded, primed then painted using materials that are designed to be used on the metal type the door is made of.
