Kitchen Table Refinishing

It was time to refinish the kitchen table.I used an orbital sander with 80-grit to remove the old finish/stains/glitter/marker/glue, then 120-grit to smooth it. I stained with one coat of Minwax Golden Oak, and put on 3 coats of Minwax water-based polyurethane, sanding with 220-grit in-between coats of poly. The finish would have been more durable if I had used regular oil-based polyurethane, but I wanted low-odor and fast drying, due to the fact that I was doing it indoors, and have cats and young children..

Glitter...marker ...glue....It sounds like you need to pick up a small table for the kids to do their art projects on....

that or pick up thin piece of plywood that you can place on this table when crafting time comes along.

I used water based throughout our home when finishing woodwork and was also disappointed as finish is now starting to come off.

Glenda D...When you used the water based product ...did you apply it over a preexisting oil based finish?

I sanded off what was left of the old finish before applying the new.
