My husband built this Pergola for me last summer...complete with a misting system... He appears to be a professional builder, but in fact he's an Airforce parachute rigger :)
Thank you to everyone for looking and commenting...now I'll have to add pictures from the inside, esp my cozy breakfast nook and the porch swing which hangs in the corner so I can stay out late at night and read to myself and my children :)
Well it's certainly good that your husband has a 2nd career he can 'FALL' back on!! This is really really nice and whether you're reading to yourself or the kids, you and your honey also have a place to sit & relax!! Yes, and please do tell him we appreciate his service to our country!!
It is very nice. We just built one ourselves and I want to hang some curtains to keep the sun out. What material did you use and how did you hang them?
Wendy and Sherry I actually bought the curtains from pottery barn over the course of a winter to keep a couple years ago... to keep it from hurting my pocketbook to badly :) The material is wonderful...very sturdy and strong and at the end of the summer I throw them into my washing machine. My husband used 1 inch conduit to hang them from. I'll try to post some pics when I have a chance of the inside that might help too :)
Do you have a problem with the material mildewing? This is very pretty, but if you live in a hot and humid area it by the end of summer the material doesn't look so good.
Janice-I havent had a problem with mildew at all, but it's probably not as humid here as it is where you live...We live near Mt. Rushmore in the Black Hills and the summer are usually quite warm and dry, although this summer has been quite a bit more humid which is not normal for us on the western side of the state...I've been having memories of growing up in southern Iowa humidity :)
Your husband did a great job! Did you use indoor curtains? Some people in my town use old sail cloth (we have lots of sailboats here). Another person told me she buys flat bed sheets at our local re-sale store, she gets creative with the tie backs.
I just made one for my yard. Put it in the grove of Cedar trees. I used flat bed sheets for the curtains, bought at yard sells and re-sale shops. I used colored floral sheets that matched the chairs and then white background sheets with small buds of different color flowers for sides and front. I plan to use different floral print (either from dresses/skirts) from yard sells for tie backs. I wonder if net type materal would hold up for a couple of years outside, have any of you used that type material?
I'm a big recycler when I can be and thrift store weekly (kind of an obsession- HAHA) and actually wanted to try bedsheets but the height of this is 16 feet and I had a difficult time finding enough to go around the entire thing as well as look ok if I needed to sew fabric to the bottoms :(
This is so soft and pretty. I just had one built and with the concrete decking (I don't know what the contractor was thinking), it could pass as a mini amphitheater. Maybe I will add draping to soften the look.
Very talented. My husband wanted to do a misting system too, but I like my hair. The two fans do quite nicely. Is that parachute fabric, would be so cool if it was.
very beautiful indeed and if the misting system is like the ones in fla then I would love it as we went to a restaurant there that had one. It was so nice and no flys when we ate outside no a single one. loved it
romantic and comfy place to enjoy. What kind of fabric did you use?
