Invest in quality pruners with curved blades so not to crush your canes.
For large and numerous blooms roses should be pruned annually.

    I love my Fiskars, although the Felcro is good also. And of course rubbing alcohol to sterilize the blades. And occasionally the drinking kind after a hot day in the garden, playing with the roses. ^-^

      @Sensible Gardening and Living I am a rose freak, it's true! And good sanitation habits are just a smart move. I have a small tote that I carry with me around the garden. I'm like you, don't like anything hanging on me when I work. And it's so easy to stock with whatever I need for the day. I have a old plastic container I use to keep the alcohol in. It's easy to clean and refill as well. I've gotten to the age where I have to garden smarter, since the "bend" doesn't work as well as it use too. LOL I have fibromyalgia, so I've been very "limited" in what I can do with the veggies, but the roses are still something I can tinker with easily.
