Vacation Keepsake Mason Jars

5 Materials
Wherever we travel, we always pick up rocks. Big rocks, little rocks, smooth rocks, colorful rocks . . .you get the idea. This summer we visited 8 states, several forests, rivers and a beach where we picked up a lot of rocks and quite a few shells too. I decided to make each of the kids a special jar to store their treasures.
Decide where and what words you want to use for each jar. I decided to put the place we visited and the year. You could easily add a child's name too. I had several sheets of letter stickers, so I just made sure I had what I needed to complete each jar. Stick the letters to the outside of the jar.
Take a plastic bag and tape the bag over the portion of the jar that you do not want to paint. Push the excess bag into the jar opening to keep it out of your way. I used painters tape to hold the bag in place.
Spray paint over the letter stickers in the color of your choice. Allow to dry for 24 hours .
When the paint has dried, carefully remove the painters tape and bag. Remove the stickers.
Fill the jars with treasure found on your vacation. No surprise here, we filled ours with the rocks and shells we collected this summer.
These are so cute and just take minutes to make (not including dry time of course). They will be easy to store on a shelf or dresser top and allow the kids to still easily access their treasures.

I love this idea for a couple reasons, it's a cute way to store these items and two, you can tell the kids they can only save what they can fit in their jar! If only I had thought of this before our trip!
