Yard Art, Recycling

Keeping junk out of the landfill. So I have finally run out of clay pots and have moved on to the next best thing. Coffee cans, soup cans, paint cans, teapots, chandelier parts and even anchovy cans for the feet. Meet my newest garden helper.

Oh, Deb B, please, please, please give us tin man instructions! I just ordered a "Scarecrow" pest deterrent that uses an electronic eye to detect and spray a shot of water at unwanted garden visitors. I would love to have the Tin Man holding it.

Rhonda and Susan B, I dont really have instructions but here goes. I used soup veggie cans etc. they are all different sizes. Cut the top completely off. I drilled holes in the cans for the legs in different places so they do not all line up, this way when you but them thru the rebar you can bend them a little. I also cut up pieces of foam pool noodles & put in the cans to keep them from wobbling. The body is coffee cans (or old paint cans). I used a heavy wire on the arms to keep them ...»
in place once I shaped them. The head is an old coffee pot and the neck is an old skillet lid. I ran the rebar in the ground and measured so enough was left to go thru the legs and the way up to the head. The hose is actually over a piece of rebar that helps support the whole structure and the water is beads from Michaels. eys etc can be just about anything you have laying around. Hope this helps.

Ohhh How fun it would be to donate something like this in town somewhere, so many people could see it and enjoy it! And maybe think outside of the box as you did.

Very clever man. My Dad, who was sheetmetal worker, made a man on a horse when i was a little girl in the '30s. He put it on the roof of his business, people came from far & wide to see it.

Love your man and the water. I bought a cement carp (part of a fountain), don't have a fountain but I'll figure out a way to incorporate your glass beads for the water, it will spout of his mouth into something, your faux water feature give me great ideas. Will have to figure out something to make the "water" arch up from the carp before it falls.
