STEPPING STONE? NOT!!!

My husband slipped on his boots one morning to take a walk through the wet weather stream at the back of our yard. After a couple of weeks without rain, the water had receded, and he noticed this "rock" that was partially buried in the mud. He came back to the garage for a shovel to dig it out. He had planned to present me with a new stepping stone for my yard.
Not happy.....look at those big teeth! There is an old saying that if a turtle bites he will not let go until sundown.
Eastern Mud Turtle (Kinosternon subrubrum)- Eastern Mud Turtle is a small turtle species that live in North America. They can reach up to 54 inches in shell length. Found in shallow water, they require low water.

Made the day a lot more interesting Carole!! We have not seen him/her since that day! If turtles have memory capability, it won't be back!! I just hope that it survived the hot dry summer last year. It looked to be very old, so it obviously has a survival technique!
