Favorite Uses for Terracotta Clay Pots

For a while, these pots were everywhere; you would even buy your plants in them, about a hundred years ago. Since the development of plastic, now all you get are green plastic pots with geraniums or succulents in.
I really like the orange clay pots for several reasons; they are heavy enough to hold up under the weight of a big overgrown succulent plant, even when the soil is bone dry (which is recommended for many succulent plants) and they are porous so the roots can have some air exchange.
Here are some ways that I use terracotta clay pots in my garden...
The pots that I've collected over the years come in many shapes and sizes, depending on the manufacturer, the type of plants they were intended for, and the clay source. www.bluefoxfarm.com/clay-pots-in-a-basket
Seeing how my favorite plants are hardy succulents, this seemed like a good opportunity to plant them in the clay pots - there's also a bit of Sedum too, along with the Sempervivum in each one.
The old strawberry pot may be showing it's age, but it still gets planted anew every year. Here's some more on that topic; www.drought-smart-plants.com/strawberry-pot.html
Some of my terracotta pots that I've collected over the past few years. Luckily for me, no-one likes them anymore, and they keep leaving them at the recycle center.
Even clay tiles are useful - write plant names on them in pencil, and they'll last for years. You can make them from the broken shards of your pots too...
...or use the broken pots to make a fairy garden like this one; www.bluefoxfarm.com/terracotta-fairy-garden.html

Thanks @Catherine, I'll continue to plant it up every year until it falls apart completely, and then it will be used for...a fairy garden, maybe?

Thanks, you just gave me an idea of where to put some new succulents I purchased over the weekend!
