Chalkboard With Floral Garland DIY

There’s this old framed painting in the basement that I wanted to turn into a chalkboard as a gift to my cousin. Since I have made chalkboards in my previous posts, I wanted this to be a little different and I was thinking of how to accessorize it. I figured a chalkboard with floral garland would look real cool.
This is the old framed painting ( I didn’t paint this )… one of those you can find in thrift shops. I’m not crazy about it but I have it because I had intentions of DIYing it.
Grab your painter’s tape and secure the edges of the painting all around. Tape down where the painting and the frame meet.
I used chalk paint to paint over the frame. What I love about chalk paint is that I do not even need to sand off the surface or base of whatever it is I will be painting on. Two coats will do the trick. Make sure your first coat completely dries before applying the second coat.
Once the frame is completely dry, use the painter’s tape again, tape down the painted frame. Grab your chalkboard paint. I used a classic black one for this project. Apply two coats. Make sure to allow an hour before applying the next coat and 24 hours curing time.
Cut out shapes of leaves on a green felt. Then get some acrylic paint and paint veins on the felt leaves cut out.
For the tutorial on how to make the felt flowers, click on the link below. Twist the green coiled wire tightly around the tip of all your felt flowers just enough to hold it then leave out the rest of the length free.
Now, measure the width of your frame and add around 7″ more. Use the length of how you want your chalkboard to hang, either vertically or horizontally. That is then the measurement of your garland. Use that measurement and cut up coiled wire in that length.

Then attach your felt flower garlands by twisting it tight to the coiled wire garland length.
Plug in your glue gun and use this to attach the felt leaves on the wire garland. Position your leaves where you are able to cover the tip of where you twisted the wire.
Press the felt leaf with hot glue on the coiled wire. Then all you need to do is loop the garland in the frame’s hooks at the back. Allow 24 hours for the chalkboard paint to cure before using any chalk sticks on it.
