The Best Ways to Store Your Fruits and Veggies

My kids love eating fresh fruits and veggies. No, I'm not joking. And yes, and I know I am blessed. How many kids actually like to eat fresh fruits and veggies? It's a proud mama moment for me. But, being kids, their preferences of what vegetables and fruits they like are constantly changing. One day it's tomatoes, the next day it's grapes, the next day it's corn. It's a little difficult to keep their favorite fruit or veggie on hand. That means I have to keep a good selection of them all the time, and so I don't waste any food, I do my best to keep them fresh.
Here are some tips I've learned to help keep your fruits and veggies crisp and fresh.
Rule 1: Don't Wash Your Produce

The first rule is don’t wash your produce until you are going to eat it. I used to always wash everything as soon as it came into the house, and I couldn’t figure out why things were spoiling so fast. But ALWAYS wash your produce before you eat it.

Rule 2: Separate Onions and Potatoes
Onions and potatoes make each other go bad, so don’t store them together. They also like to be in cool places with plenty of air circulation, so baskets are a great place to store them.

Rule 3: Keep Tomatoes Outside the Fridge
Tomatoes lose their sweetness if you put them in the fridge, and they last longer if they are stored with the stem side down.

Rule 4: Store Garlic in a Dry Place
Garlic lose their flavor and spoil faster in the fridge. They last the longest when stored in the dark.

Rule 5: Keep Cucumbers Warm and Separate
Cukes don’t like being cold, and they go bad faster if you store them with any other fruit or vegetable.

Rule 6: Keep Stone Fruit on the Counter
Stone fruit, like peaches, plums, and cherries, prefer to be on the counter. But don't store them near a window. These yummy fruit don't like sunlight, because it makes them shrivel up.

Rule 7: Lemons Go Anywhere
Lemons store just fine in or out of the fridge. They're not picky.

Rule 8: Apples Stay on the Counter for a Week
If you’re going to eat those apples soon, keep them on the counter. They'll taste better.
But if you're planning on saving them for longer, store them in the fridge. They can last up to three weeks in your fridge.

Rule 9: Oranges and Grapes Stay in the Fridge
Oranges like to be refrigerated, as do grapes. Grapes also last longer in bags -- you can just keep them in the bags you get them in.

Rule 10: Corn, Peppers, and Ginger All Last Longer in the Fridge.
Make sure to keep fruits and veggies exactly where they're supposed to be, and you'll get to enjoy your produce much more, for much longer!

How do fresh figs like to be stored?

I tried to eat a fresh-picked cucumber once, and it felt like it had sucked all the moisture out of my tongue. Refrigerating them is the only way I know to make them sweet and juicy - if they're refrigerated for just an hour or two and then pulled out, with they not last as long as being left out of the fridge from the get-go?

one thing i found too is to keep that refrigerator door closed. Everything keeps long in my fridge since my teenagers have all grew up and gone. They still come back home and stand and converse while holding the door open I will say politely to them even now get what you want and close the refrigerator door. Or else ask what you want I will help you find it. SAVES ON FOOD AND THE POWER BILL THANKS FOR SHARING AND ALLOWING ME TOO. DHALL...
