The counter can be painted. Giani Granite Counter Top Paint, Rust-Oleum Countertop Coating. The cabinets can also be painted. Remove the doors and hardware, Sand lightly to remove any gloss, Prime with KILZ or BIN, then paint.

I did mine years ago before they had all the new great products. I used tremclad . Make sure the room is well ventalilated . Sand the surface . Wash with a damp cloth and paint . I did a base and splattered 2 other colors in . Then used a durable clear coat over top. Let dry for 48 hrs before doing anything on the surface .

We bought an Ezfaux finish on ebay. It's like a heavy duty contact paper that is heat and scratch resistant. Ours looks like granite. It wasn't time consuming to put on and looks great. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1311.R1.TR1.TRC0.A0.H0.Xezfaux.TRS0&_nkw=ezfauxdecor&_sacat=0 We've had it over a year. (Our Formica counters were porous and were hard to keep clean. Now they are easy to keep clean and stain free.)
