  • Last summer my husband and I planted our first garden, a compact container garden between our driveway and house. 1
  • You can imagine how upset we were when something started eating our produce before we had a chance to.
  • My mother said it might be slugs and to get rid of them by getting them drunk. All you do is to fill small plastic containers with beer. Don't worry. The slugs will drink any kind.
  • Right before dark, dig small holes and position the containers so that they are even with the soil. Then fill them with beer. The slugs are attracted to the sweetness of it. They will crawl in to have a drink, and then they drown.
  • I got over 50 slugs in each container, and I only needed to do this two nights. Then they were completely gone. I knew that if other slugs appeared, I could repeat the process. 2

Did the Slugs/Snails Enjoy Eating Up Your Garden Last Summer?

Here's a simple and environmentally friendly way to get rid of them, and you probably have it in your frig right now. It's simple - beer. You have to use it in a special way. See how here: http://the2seasons.com/2012/06/05/lets-get-d...

This is great idea - I just purchased slug and snail bait from my local garden store and that ...»
is pricey, plus over the past two years I have had to purchase at least 2 bags of it each year. I am going to try the beer - my husband's belly could use a few inches to disappear too along with the snails....but we won't tell em.

  • So easy to do this! You don't even need elbow grease! http://www.thevspotblog.com/2011/07/cleaning-stove-burners-grates-best.html
  • Ick! (I cook a lot... don't you judge me.) ;)
  • Take the disgusting, yucky burner and seal it up in a big Ziploc-type bag with about 1/4 cup of ammonia and let it sit overnight.
  • The same burner, 12 hours and no scrubbing later. Ammonia fumes have worked their magic. It's the fumes that dissolve the grease, not the ammonia itself.

An easy spring cleaning tip for one of the worst jobs in the house!

My stove burners get absolutely disgusting. Sealing them up with a tiny bit of pure ammonia makes it possible to just wipe clean with a sponge. #SpringCleaning http://www.thevspotblog.com/2011/07/cleaning...

Cleaning & Organization: Any ideas for polishing a large brass candlestick - floor model other than brasso polish.

Approximately 36" high brass candlestick purchased in Asia over 30 years old - has detail to it as well and Brasso polish does not do anything for it. Thanks

I knew someone that used only lemon oil to clean brass objects. Worth a shot.

Gardening: Does anyone have any suggestions on making squirrels "move on" from my orange trees?

I know it is against the law to exterminate them. I also do not want to use any harmful sprays, or insecticides. Thanks

High pressure steam works best. Some local carpet cleaning companies offer a grout service. ...»
Otherwise, it is elbow grease and chemicals. Use a soft wire brush for the darker areas.
