Painting Knotty Pine Panelling

Update those dark paneled wood walls by simple adding some coats of paint. Our family room was refreshed and updated by using a warm white, Benjamin Moore Marscapone. See more at http://www.no29design.com/2012/01/how-i-pain...

Grow!

This is a sign I painted that hangs on a fence out in my vegie garden that hides my compost tumbler. Everything used to make the fence, sign and even the window box is repurposed and I change the sign out several times during the seasons.

  • My Front Yard Before the 100+ temps. The grass struggles.

The sun bakes my front yard 10 hours a day. I need shade. What else could i do for curb appeal? Help!

Facing West, no shade, everything seems to be dying regardless of what I do.

Beware of Bradford Pear trees! They are beautiful ornamental trees (not fruit-bearing) but ...»
they have very weak trunks and tend to split down the middle in high winds.

  • One little pic of one dog house, who would have ever though it would get so many views...

Geeezzz........... let me explain

Almost 4 yrs ago when I married my husband..he came with 5--25lb dogs !!! They look like chows...They were all rescue dogs as small puppies with their mom. He found them all alone behind a huge storage tank full of gasoline. I came with a winnie dog, and 2 chihuahua's. Does this sound like people who don't care about animals ? We also now have cats and kittens..We moved in Nov 2011..In our other house the dogs had a small yard with a lot of sun. And a small laundry room to get in ...»
during the rain and winter. They hate thunder..so I would let them come into MY KITCHEN..5 LONG HAIR DOGS. Does this sound like people who don't care about animals ?? When we got this house, it was a lot better for the dogs. We have NEVER CHAINED THEM UP!! They have a large shady fenced in area and a breezeway to get in. The reason of building the dog house..was so they would get out and get exercise. These dogs are 13-14 yrs old...2 have passed away. They have food, fresh water, and treats DAILY !! Does this sound like people who don't care about animals ?? The dog house was not built for them to feel like they are in prison..but to get them outside and exercise, and get out of the rain, etc. ALL OF OUR ANIMALS ARE FIXED AND UP TO DATE ON THEIR SHOTS,ETC. DO WE SOUND LIKE HUMAN BEING WHO DO NOT LOVE OUR ANIMALS ????????????????????

Painting: Can I succesfully paint the walls in my basement?

The walls are covered in what looks like varnished sections of knotty pine. It is not paneling. I would ike to paint them a lighter color to brighten the basement. Has anyone here done this before, and if so, what is the process?

Debbie, if you want to make certain it does not ever chip or peel then use a deglosser first. ...»
These are available in water base today.

Another step that pine needs when painting is to prime the knots with white shellac or BIN primer so they don't bleed through over time.

After your first full primer coat (any good primer will do after deglossing) you can decide how many holes you want to putty and cracks you want to caulk to make things look seamless.

Then you are ready for two finish coats of a high quality eggshell finish paint.

For another option, you could also lighten up the room with a light colored glaze that would let some of the wood show through and you would not have to prime, caulk or putty. It's just a little tricky to work with like varnish.

    Best, Charles

I just bought a new washer last week. I was having trouble making the same decision-top load ...»
or front load. I also wasn't sure about the ones without an agitator. I bought a GE top loader that has an agitator. It is an HE model. I am very satisfied with how well it cleans and how quiet it is. It lets me select the water level needed or I can let it decide how much water it needs for the load. I love it so far! Good luck!

New Use for an Old Door

We were in need of something to add character to an empty wall in our kitchen. So my husband and I removed the glass insert in an old door, stapled a burlap sack to the back of the ...»
opening, and added shelves made from pallet boards. So simple!! I love the way the door fills the space and it has provided me with great storage to display my vintage finds!
