Any ideas on what to do about these tiles?

I hate these tiles. Do I rip them out? Paint the backsplash ones? Do I have to also replace board underneath? I do not want to replace cabinets. Help!!!

Look at these ugly tiles...kitchen is full of them!

You could also cover them besides painting them. We used a very thin plastic sheeting for our backsplash that cut with scissors and looks like old tin ceiling tiles :) It was easy to cut with a pair of scissors and I just glued it down with liquid nails. They are also making peal and stick tile now too just for backsplashes that looks absolutely cool.

  I would really think you could remove the tiles on the counter top without damaging the wood (too badly...) beneath but you would probably only be able to replace it with more tile after that. I know they make granite tiles now that look pretty nice. At one point I saw online someone making wood counter top to go over the top of a tiled counter top... that would be the quickest and probably the least expensive option.

  Thank you GrandmasHouseDIY for all the useful information.I am thinking not to remove, it may be too much for me at this time. I am thinking of using concrete to level the grout lines with the counter top . Then using a paint, epoxy.....I haven't gotten that far.

  Robin..there are lots of ways I can go with the backsplash instead of removing. There are sheeting that is like contact paper, but thicker, that you could place over the backsplash. I am going to tear out my backsplash.

There is a paint for tile from Rustoleum. That would be perfect. The Tub and Tile Transformation Kit. I ordered mine from eBay.

  Rustoleum also has a kit you can use to refinish countertops. Some of the finishes look like granite and some are more of a flecked finish like formica finishes appear on their surfaces. For a handy person who can handle the odor of the application products, application steps, and several hours of drying time it might be a more cost effective substitute that would be taken care of like a laminate counter finish.

  Have you tried the rustoleum? I ask because it is twice the cost of Giani and it doesn't have a white color...they are dark.

  I have not personally used the counter Rustoleum kit but some friends used it with good results. You are correct concerning the dark colors. I don't recall seeing lighter counter colors in the kits I have looked at. I would prefer the lighter colors as well.

  The tub and tile transformation kit would work on a tile backsplash. I have it on my shower surround and it looks just like white porcelain tile. I didn't think you were talking about a countertop but there is a kit for that too.

  I plan on using it on my surround also. I am doing a tile backsplash. But first I have to decide what to do with the counter.

You can try the stick on tiles. Thay can be put on over old tiles and all you have to do is clean old tiles of dirt and grease. No grouting and can be cut to fit with scissors.
