I have much fabric that I want to store in a former closet approximately 46" wide by 64" tall and 20" deep. I'd like to have them folded and out so I can get one out when needed and not in totes. I need help!

Thank you for the suggestions but this doesn't answer my question because there are no studs so there's nothing to attach shelpves too. Likewise on the ends!

Hello Twila! Is there still a rod in this closet? If so you could use the hanging purse/shoe/sweater organizers for the closet. That is what I did. If there isn't a rod you can always get one at Bed/Bath/Beyond (They are on sale right now at BBB due to back to school sales, don't forget to use your 20% off coupons) or just get a wooden dowel at Home Depot/Lowes and have someone hang it up for you.Or hang it yourself. The hanging organizers usually have a velcro strap across the top and you just wrap it around the dowel and hook it together. Now that part is easy. Then all you have to do is fold the fabric and lay it on the shelves. I have stored many yards of fabric doing this and it is all fine.I guess it all depends on how much fabric you want to store and how much you want to spend.I have a way of folding fabric that I learned many moons ago that keeps all of your fabric nice and tidy with the right side facing out and it takes up very little room. Let me know if I can be of more help.Enjoy!:) If you choose to do this method you can arrange your fabric by types and colors.ie.. knits/wovens/quilting calico prints, sew on and sew forth! tee hee LOL:) http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/assets/product_images/230/29487241513743p.jpg http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/assets/product_images/230/29251414397167p.jpg http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71HFtZEp3ZL._SL1500_.jpg http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51IgNmf5WWL._SL1000_.jpg http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51ERujm-aYL._SL1000_.jpg

"Milk Crates" I do not have a picture but I stacked them on their side and folded my material in them. They are about 18" square and I stacked them 4 high (you will have room for 3) which left room at the top to store additional items.

I would install closet rods every 14" or so, then hang the fabric by color on hangers on the rods.

You could put some old bookcases in the closet so that you can fold them on the shelves. Make sure you keep the closet door closed so they don't get faded from the sun.

There was a recent post where someone sorted out their craft room using plastic bins stacked on top of each other. The really nice thing about the bins she used was that they opened to the front, rather than the top. I have been searching for the post, but cannot find it. I am sure that would be a solution for you, as the bins were clear. You could then fold and have separate bins for each color of fabric, and be able to access the fabric without removing the bins. Otherwise I like the idea suggested by Larose LoganOakes of using hanging purse/shoe/sweater organizers.

The post that I referred to is 'Getting your craft closet organized Part 1' - it is worth a look, I am sure you will get some ideas.

Hello Twila! I added some new items to the previous post from Amazon and I wanted to let you know that they are on sale now. If you are interested you might want to take a look soon.Best of Luck!:) BTW if you decide to go with the double size holder I would reinforce to hanger with a heavy duty wooden coat hanger across the top. I would just make a piece to go over the hanger and velcro it on. Fabric can get really heavy.

Thank you Valerie! I'll make it a point to try and find bins that open from the front. I'd really like that. Maybe I'll go on ebay and see what I can find. So again you made an Alaskan lady very happy!

@Twila Palmatier That is the lovely thing about the Internet - that someone from the very tip of Africa can make suggestions to someone in Alaska! But why not contact the person from 'Getting your craft room organized' - I am sure she will be more than happy to help with suggestions, especially as she did such an excellent job with her own space?
