Hate filling your home with chemicals? Well here is a great solution to make your home smell deliciously wonderful this fall the natural way! I love the smell of essential oils (and all their benefits) so I decided to make this great natural home fragrance with some oils I had on hand. By putting them in a handmade reed diffuser with some alcohol and water, you can just let the oils do their thing without having to light anything or turn any electric devices on!
Oh my goodness if you could only smell this thing! It smells so good and makes me feel healthier haha... I know that's not necessarily the case, but it's at least making me feel that way! The cost really varies based on how many oils you want to use in the mix and what brand you get.
SUPPLIES:

-Gin / Vodka / Alcohol

-Water

-Bottle

-Bamboo Skewers

-Essential Oils ( I used Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon Bark, and Sweet Orange for a nice autumn scent)

-Scissors

-Washi Tape (optional)

-Measuring Spoons

-Funnel (not pictured)
STEP 1: Measure your bamboo skewers

Take a bamboo skewer and place it in the bottle. Measure how long you want it to be.
STEP 2: Cut your skewers

Cut the skewer to the length you decided you wanted in step 1. Be sure to repeat this with each of your skewers. I made them all the same length, but you could make them vary if you want.
STEP 3: Add flags (optional)

I decided to make my reeds look a bit more decorative by adding some washi tape flags at the top. You just fold a piece of tape around the reed so that it sticks together and cut it. (I cut some into a triangular flag shape and left some in a rectangle)
STEP 4: Add water

Using a funnel pour water into your bottle filling it almost to the top. I filled mine a bit less than that, but you can always refill it as needed.
STEP 5: Add gin, vodka, or rubbing alcohol

Add 3-4 Tbsp of gin, vodka, or rubbing alcohol to the bottle. It should be about 1 Tbsp. per 1/4 cup of water. This will help the mixture to evaporate into the air and assist in filling the air with its delicious fragrances.

Once your vodka is added drop 3-4 drops of each essential oil of your choice. I did about 20 drops in total between the four oils.
STEP 6: Add your skewers

Drop your flagged reeds into the bottle and allow them to soak up mixture inside.
Look how cute this lil' thing is...
You could make a million mixtures with oils to cater to what you like or to the season. And it only takes a couple of drops of each oil so you could refill it loads and loads!!

If I use rubbing alcohol, since I don't have vodka or gin, will that strong alcohol scent linger and override the essential oils scent?

I am having an issue getting the oils to mix with water. I see it sitting on top. Does anyone have a solution for that.

Where can you buy these reeds they are talking about instead of bamboo skewers?
