What have you tried? It's been a while since I have needed to do anything about this but some standard stuff like baking soda and vinegar or lemon slice laid on it for a soak might work.

Actually, @Beverly Hamilton , This is a question posted for a coworker. I haven't any problem with rust rings, thank God! I recommended using baking soda, but didn't think to recommend the vinegar or lemon. Good thoughts! Thank you!!

I hope it helps, Patti. The vinegar or lemon would help activate the baking soda's properties when used together.

Bar Keepers Friend. Found at most stores like Walmart.

I read somewhere that coca cola, the real soda, helps tackle rust! Try it and let us know!

I know that I read coca cola with aluminum foil gets rust off fenders or metal, like rusty screws or bolts.

Bar Keepers Friend works great. They sell it at bed, bath and beyond. Sprinkle lightly and scrub a little and the rust is gone.

I use magic eraser, works great for me

I also use magic eraser. I have a bad habit of setting my cast iron skillet on my formica counter top -- the magic eraser works really well on rust.
