I Need Decorating Advice for this Bathroom

The 2 Seasons
by The 2 Seasons
When we remodeled our place two years ago before moving in, we added a basic bathroom in the basement. I've decided it's time to add some pizzazz to the room. Other than the letters that I hung on the wall, nothing has been done. Do you have any suggestions? You can read more about it here: http://the2seasons.com/2013/08/18/living-in-the-basement-bath/
The room is basic white with a shower stall.
I added these cute letters for the first pop of color.

Since it's a basement bathroom and my guess is you won't be putting on make up in here. Why not paint the walls with flat black paint and write on them with chalk? I know chalk paint is everywhere, but it's just so darn fun.
  • I think you need a punch of color. Pick your favorite color and run with it. The letters are cool and I would think that complimentary or even contrasting color for the walls would be so fun. Then I would even put up a really cool shower curtain. You need some texture in there~bathroom rugs, towels, and maybe even some black and white pictures to go along with the letters.

Ha...it is a blank slate! Love the letters and I would play off the colors you already have...so go for it!

Love the big red letters! I think adding some soft rich greys to the room might be fun. Besides....gray towels are sooo forgiving! I can't see what color the floor is, but if it is brown toned then some khaki towels would be great too!

Would you be interested in "stripping" the walls. Just put tape (now they have the tape that is "wavey", on a wall and go over it with a color that suits the basement. I would only do a wall, it could get kind of crazy otherwise.

If you plan on using a shower curtain or picture, pick colors from those items to add accessories. You know the rule of three? Use three of the same colors throughout for impact. You already have red, so work with colors you like. The colors don't have to be exactly alike, just in the same family. I love the idea of working with a blank slate. Good luck.

My first thought was "color"! Is that carpet on the floor? Being that the room is in the basement...is there any theme beyond it? helpful info equals helpful design info!

Paint the wall opposite the LIVE the same red. Apparently, from what Larose posted, you're in to Bicycles. Remove the towel rod and mount a white (or black) bike frame there (against the new red wall) as a towel rack. Paint the vanity, medicine cabinet and baseboards black. This will not detract from the "pop" of the letters, only pull it together and balance it. And clearly, you need some art, functional or otherwise, above the commode.: a large, single, vertical piece. Oh, and remove the wall mounted toilet paper holder and get something black and architectural to stand on the floor, ie: http://www.touchofclass.com/product.aspx?p=B847-001&code=LMF10&gclid=CJaTyKGaj7kCFSFyQgodSw8AWQ or http://compare.ebay.com/like/221264248319?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar or think outside of the box. If it isn't black, spray paint it!

Fantastic--a blank canvas! Choose your accent colors (not white and blue) to make an interesting combination with the red letters. Hot pink and orange might work, depending on how you use them, or go with another combo that does not include red, and let the letters be the pop factor.

The world is your oyster here...... I suggest shopping for linens FIRST.... then picking other colors like paint (especially). I do not like the current 'IN' colors in linens. Well, less you can drop some huge bucks.

Red wall. black towels, black rug with French style red bicycles printed on them (you can stencil these yourself) and go crazy with French cyclist inspired quotes on the walls. The possibilities are endless!

The letters on the wall are a great start. We have some plain white fixtures in our workshop bathroom and our Sinkadoodles brightened them right up! www.sinkadoodles.com

your bath reminds me of a former client. I found a really fun wall paper that had a white back round and splashes of red and black all over it. I did one wall as a feature. Framed the mirror in red and then added a set of black towel holders and tissue dispensers. You will be surprised at the fun accessories you can find in reds and blacks---silver accents are great too. I like the bike wheel as a towel holder but was going to suggest a frame! LOL! Great minds...
