It was a rainy weekend, and the flowers I had found on sale couldn't be planted. So what's left to do? Clean House? I don't think so.
I had a small dresser with three drawers that I was going to take to the thrift store. I had only paid $10.00 for it, so I decided instead to try and use the drawers for something.
I am going to a craft show in September and I need to make some things to add to my bath and skin products I make. So I gathered up a few supplies for a project I have been thinking about making. The old drawer, paint, and other supplies.
I gave the drawer 2 coats of orange paint, and then added the stem. I originally had thought of using a cork, but found this end piece from an old table leg. More about that project later!
I drew the eyes, nose, and mouth on with a pencil, and had my son cut them out with a jigsaw. Tip: Try to find a drawer with a wood bottom. This was Masonite and was a little harder to cut. The inside of the features were sanded to smooth them out.
The pumpkin received another coat on the face, the drawer sanded so that it was so glossy, and the edges distressed. The stem was painted green, and I added a little sphagnum moss was added around it. You could also wind some old wire around it, and add a burlap tie. I will be able to make 3 of these pumpkins for around 10.00 You could buy various sizes to add interest to a display.
