Renewing kitchen cabinets

Cabinets are 30+ years old (oak) and the cabinets under the sink are very worn and finish is worn away in spots. I would love to paint them but my husband would never agree--help

I think I may be able to help convince your husband, not only are you on the right track…but you will save him oodles of hard earned CASH! I recently did my own kitchen, with chalk paint, then distressed them, aged them even more with wax and sealed them! Here are some pictures of before and after.

I understand your husband's resisting painting good oak wood. First thing I would do is clean the years of cooking grease (if any) and built up dirt from the cabinets. Ask your home store what cleaner would be best. Then I would either seal them with tung oil or apply Orange Glo. I even use Orange Glo for cleaning my stove top. I works great, of course, for the intended use on wood furniture. I restores the beauty of the wood and I think you will be pleasantly surprised in the outcome. Changing the hardware is also a great step in beautifying any cabinetry. Hope this helps. : )

Show these sites to your hubby and he may change his mind about painting.
