Repurpose An Old Paint Night Canvas

1 Material
Creating a beautiful piece of wall-worthy art is super easy and an inexpensive way to decorate the wall in a home. All it takes is an old canvas, some acrylic paint, and your favorite stencil pattern. Today we're sharing how to repurpose an old paint night canvas using our Hamsa Hand Mandala Stencil from the Mandala Collection
We'd like you to welcome back Greg, one of the Cutting Edge Stencils owners and a creative DIYer. Greg had attended a fun paint night with his friends. He had a blast sipping wine and painting a canvas picture. His work of art was cute but certainly not something he'd hang in his home. Greg decided to upcycle the canvas using a stencil. Here is what it looked like before its stenciled makeover.
Let's walk through the steps for completing this easy stencil project. The first thing he did was lightly sand down the old painted canvas. Then he used a dense foam roller to paint the canvas black.
Greg decided to use one of our new Mandala Stencils for this fun project, the Hamsa Hand Mandala Stencil. With his ancient holy motif in hand he was ready for the fun part, stenciling! Greg carefully placed the stencil in the center of the canvas.
Greg made sure he brushed off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed. He painted the overlapping circle pattern with Plaster Paint Marigold using a dense foam roller.
Greg made sure he covered the entire design with paint before he removed the pattern.
Once it was complete, he carefully removed the stencil from the canvas.
Then he stepped back to admire the beautiful pattern. Are you ready to see how it all turned out? Here is Greg's DIY stenciled wall art.
This beautiful pattern is an inexpensive and easy way to make an old canvas wall-worthy!
