How to cover up this blue Laminate backsplash?

Question

To much blue..... Do you know of any cheap and easy ideas on how I can make over this backsplash? Also, what colors will go with this blue?  Besides beige.

To be honest changing the color of the backsplash only will make the appearance more obvious. If anything I would Use a countertop restoration kit by Gianni or Rustoleum and do the backsplash and the top .

I would make it a feature rather than hiding it by hanging white items from the cabinets above it.  Ot red items.  Both would be stunning against the blue background.

I was thinking of a rack of kitchen tools, towels or hotpads, some of ose adoreable Ikea wire baskets that hang on rods, etc.  stuff you would actually use.

That contact paper or wallpaper idea from B. Enne is a good one.  Check out Amazon.  They have contact paper and wallpaper that look like lighter/grey shades of wood planks.    Good luck!

We used a Faux tile wallpaper in a diamond pattern.  Looks great!  Wallpaper is inexpensive, easy to install and can be changed out easy, too.

Section off the back splash into squares, or diagonal squares (diamonds) and paint them satin white;  leaving the grout lines blue.  Sponge them to look like tile or granite. Seal with clear glossy poly. Use yellow accents on the counter.  White vase yellow flowers?   Blue, white and yellow look really fresh and clean, and will make the counter POP!

I agree with paint -- whatever your heart desires.  First lightly sand, though, so the paint will stick to the surface.  After you're finished, put a coat of oil-based polyurethane on it.  You want oil based so that water that gets on the backsplash won't make it cloudy.  Also, there are good looking stick-on plastic tiles you can use until you can afford what you want.

If you like the country farmhouse look, cover the blue backsplash with vinyl strips that are used on floors, staggering them.  Then paint them white.  It will look great.

There's a thermoplastic backsplash made by a company called Fasade. It's sold at Home Depot and Lowe's. It comes in several different patterns - some resembling the old pressed tin ceilings. It comes in several different finishes as well - stainless steel, copper, brushed nickel, etc. I am using this as an inexpensive (under $200) way to update my old, tired, original backsplash and also putting it behind my stove as I'm tired of washing the painted wall. Look it up, there are more pattern/color options available online than in the store but you can at least stop in the store to check it out in person.

Keep the blue as a background to stenciling a diamond pattern to pick up the floor tile pattern.  I like the laminate pattern and color but it is overwhelming.
-OR-  Put up a backsplash. I've gotten hooked on the Stick It peel-n-press tiles. No cement or grout. Just peel-n-stick. The big box hardware stores sell it even Wal-Mart & Amazon does too.

The simplest and cheapest way to cover the backslash is to paint it.  Clean with TSP, prime with latex primer, paint with latex paint. If you're not going to change the wall color or flooring, make it same white color as the walls.  It stands up well and cleans wonderfully.   I have painted backsplash in my current and former kitchen.  Add in accessories in a color you like that goes with blue :-)

You could use the peel and stick vinyl that looks like hardwood I actually used this type of flooring at my front door although we don't use our front door normally I have not had any problems at all with this sticking I have seen this put up then painted over to look like shiplap I want to use this after I finish up a few other projects you could also use liquid nails adhesive to b sure of it sticking I love the blue but I understand too much of somethings are just too much please let us know what you decide (sometimes at flooring stores they will have discontinued colors at a great discount)

You can wallpaper it.  I was in the midst of a kitchen reno with company coming and no time to tile.  So I bought an interesting wallpaper, put it up fast- horizonally as paper is 21 ' wide; and 2 years later it is still there.

You could put on self stick on tile transfers, I've put them on tiles to change them but it did work, that's ok if you want it to look like they have tiles and not a plain wall or use masking tape and make a grid then paint it the colour you like. Hope you find some cheap and easy.

Vinyl film would work on that too. It comes in all kinds of designs, mostly meant for windows, but would work well on that smooth surface.  Plus it peels right off with no left over residue.
