I love wood and especially aged, rustic pieces. When our neighborhood had its recent brush collection, I went on the hunt and salvaged this lovely fence board and several other pieces of wood. Weeks later, on a visit to the local GW Boutique, I discovered a rustic looking jar candle, which was a manger's special that day for $1.99. Immediately, I thought it would be a perfect match for the old fence board, so I brought it home. A light sanding of the fence board brought out the wood grain and beautiful wood color; I especially love the wavy edge of the board. The top metal piece of the candle was a dull copper color which I enhanced using metallic antique copper and black acrylic paints. Then, I mounted the jar to the board using a pipe strap found in the plumbing isle at Home Depot. My recycled treasure will have a new home on the patio wall.
