I had planned to use ICFs for my basement walls and 2" ridgid foam insulation under the poured concrete basement floor

when building our new house. Although various construction magazines and websites recommend this, three different pest control firms have advised against this. They say I am asking for real termite issues. Who is correct and what do you recommend?

    Hi Deight,

Since most magazines have a national reader base, many times their answers/articles are to be applied generally. I would trust the local pest control companies as they have a better idea of how things really are in your specific location.

There is an article called the time bomb in termite industry that speaks about that very issue. It is very bad idea for termites. Because what happens is the termites eat through tjhe styrofoam and travel undetected in the foem to the house. And when you treat them you can't make the chem, ical penetrate the foam to complete the barrier> I have phsically removed that on 6 homes last year to stop the termites. Also what is the need of that in your area is it even cold enough to warrant that type of insulation needs
