A tale of a sad nightstand that got to see some farmhouse fun when it was flipped!
This poor piece had definitely seen better days! July's Fab flippin' contest was the perfect moment to revive it.
I decided it should get the Old Fashioned Milk Paint treatment! OFMP is a TRUE milk paint, the very first ever on the market and the original to be sold in its powder form that is so popular today! They sponsored the FFFC July month and the theme was "Farmhouse Fun"!
I could not WAIT to get to work on this piece, but before I could get started painting, I knew I needed to properly prep the piece! IT WAS FILTHY! I originally found the piece at a garage sale and it had been sitting in a dark corner in my garage so it was gross! I used my favorite GREEN cleaner to clean it up and I gave it a light sanding where I wanted to control the chippiness of the milk paint. Milk paint was created for porous surfaces, so when you paint with it over a previous finish (especially if shiny) it will lift and chip away as only a true mil paint can! While I LOVE the chippy look, I do like to be able to control it. Make sure you check out my blog post below to learn all the ways I control milk paint!
The 'AFTER' is of course STUNNING! I used one of my favorite OFMP colors, 'Pitch Black' and sealed it with my favorite solvent free clear wax! (Seriously, check out my blog for all things GREEN DIY!)
It was chippy where I wanted it chippy (along the edges, and sides/bottom) but had proper adherence where I wanted it to as well. A little prep goes a LONG way!
Hope you will give true milk paint a try! IT'S SO MUCH FUN!
