Peggy on Aug 29, 2016May have been a pie safe. They usually have tin punch instead of glass in the panelsHelpful Reply

Jeanne Martin on Aug 30, 2016I'm with Peggy. Looks like a pie safe and if it has new glass the tin panels may have been removed due to damage. One thing tho, I have never seen a pie safe that shape (smaller at the top). So maybe it's not.Helpful Reply

Mary Beth Carrier on Aug 30, 2016As Peggy said earlier my guess would have been pie safe, but The one I inherited from my great-grandmother does have a couple of sm round vents in the back that would help the pies cool down after being baked. My second guess was pickling cabinet. You mentioned the shelves are deep so this really makes sense because they would be able to put a few rows of their canning jars full of goodies on each shelf.Helpful Reply

Betty on Aug 30, 2016I agree with Lissa - gun cabinets often have the two drawers at the bottom for ammo, etc. Also, angle out at the bottom because of the gun stock. Someone may have removed the internal notched shelve that would have kept the guns upright.Helpful Reply

Carol on Aug 30, 2016It could have been an old "pie safe" and someone replaced the punched tin panels with new glassHelpful Reply

Carole Alden on Aug 30, 2016Looks like pine from here which means it probably isn't that old. Pine is cheaper, not as hard.Helpful Reply
