UPDATING A POWDER BATH TO GIVE IT FRENCH COUNTRY STYLE

My home decorating style is French Country. I had a plain powder bathroom, but wanted to give it some French Country flair. With the help of my husband, we took out the old pedestal sink, bathroom fixtures, builder's grade mirror, and added stripes to the wall to create a new look.
This is how the bathroom looked before the makeover.
First, we gave the room a fresh coat of paint. After the paint had dried and cured, we measured the width of stipes we wanted and taped them off.
We placed x's on the stripes that needed to painted to help us know where to paint. It gets confusing if you don't do this. I chose a paint color two shades darker than the original paint color to create a tone on tone look. This also gives the illusion of a subtle wallpaper without having to use wallpaper. Wallpaper can be a mess to remove when you get tired of it.
I purchased a new bathroom vanity online. I wanted a vanity that looked like an antique piece of furniture. This vanity came with a marble counter and sink. It is important to remember to seal your vanity before it is in use. Water and soap can leave stains. You can find marble and granite sealer at any big box home store. Be sure to follow the instructions.
I ordered an oiled bronze sink fixture online. My husband was able to intstall it himself.
I then hung a mirror above the vanity that matched the decor of the room. I chose a color that was a close match to the sink fixture.
I loved the light fixture that was already in the room, but it was the wrong color. Therefore, I spray painted it black and rubbed gold craft paint to the raised features of the fixture to give it an aged over time look.
The following pictures show more of how the French Country Powder Bath turned out.
