I am in need of repacing my 2 HVAC units (20+ ears old).

I am planning on finishing off my basement in the next few years and wanted to know if it is better to put a bigger HVAC unit on the first level and zone it so it can feed both the main level and basement independantly or sould I just add a third unit. Both levels are about 1400sqft.

    Hi Chris,

It depends on where the thermostat will be located. If it is on the upper (ground) floor, then the AC will run until that floor is at the desired temperature, which could make the basement area quite cold (heat rises, cold sinks). If you will want to control the areas individually, then go for the extra unit.
