How do I get rid of hornets and warps from building nests on my porch?

I have an open porch on my vacation home, every spring when we go to open up there will be several large nests. Even in the gas grill. Is there anything we can do to help prevent hornet nests from coming back after we get them all down ?

The "faux" nests look like real nests and keep the new comers from building. http://eartheasy.com/yard-garden/natural-pest-control/bee-free-wasp-deterrent some folks will also rub bar soap on the surfaces where they are likely to build .

Small paper bags (about lunch bag size) work as well as the commercial faux nest. Stuff them with newspaper or plastic bags and scrunch them into an approximate nest shape. Pinch the top together and tie a string around the neck. Hang a few around on your fence, deck, etc. I used to get a wasp nest every year under my front steps where they met the house. Since hanging a bag near there from the railing, it has never happened again. They might deteriorate and have to be replaced next year, but, what the heck, they're free!
