HI Donna, I had the same issue for several years-- http://www.hometalk.com/diy/outdoor/pest-repeller/burrowing-animal-450267 and got some good advice here. Collapsing the tunnels was how I started and using grub killer along with the sonar tubes that you bury seems to have done the trick. I hope one of these ideas will be helpful to you, good luck!
  • Moles rarely come to the surface because they have no eyes and they eat grubs, worms, and insects. chipmunks eat seeds but Voles which look like mice with no tail use the moles tunnels to find roots of plants such as hosta and other roots they find yummy. Moles are in your yard because you have lots of grubs. I have the same issue and since I do not use chemicals and my neighbor does, many times I lose the battle over the mole. But I have 2 cats and 2 dogs that hunt and kill so my yard looks like the Grand Canyon at times. Castor Oil is what is found in the mole repellent and is in hose sprayer at many stores. You will also have to address the grub problem as well. good luck.

C Renee is correct. The moles are after the grubs in your lawn, it's the voles that use the mole tunnels that will go after your veggies. Both Milky Spore and Garden's Alive beneficial nematodes are organic pesticides that will help with that problem. Milky Spore is expensive and does take time to spread, but you can do a little at a time. The beneficial nematodes usually last one year, but are less expensive and very effective. And I've found castor oil to be quite effective in keeping them out of my flower's, especially the bulbs. Evidently they don't like the taste any better than the rest of us. LOL

I don't know if this will help or not buy Bayer...the asprin mfgr...supposedly makes an environmentally safe grub spray...it might be worth a try. Eliminate them by eliminating the food supply.

That supposedly environmentally safe grub bait from Bayer contains Trichlorfon, it is highly toxic to birds and has the potential to cause neurological issues in humans. As an organic gardener, not something I'd want to use on my potential veggie site. It took a bit of research, since I could not find a list of ingredients on the Bayer site.

3 years after building new flower beds, everything was lush and gorgeous, I was SO pleased! Then my Brittany Spaniel went nuts, ripped the beds apart and came up with a mole. What a mess - don't know what will be left next year.

Thanks to all, I just didn't want to poison my veggies... But I found another solution I hope works. And that's boiling jalapeno peppers in water and pouring that into the tunnels with some vinegar. I know it makes me cough just to walk into the kitchen while they are boiling..I`ll let you know.. :)

Maybe it would also keep my dog out!

Apparently you have a good supply of grubs. Get rid of the grubs and the moles will go away. You can either use a spray or the pellets. I prefer the spray due to having pets. Good luck!

If you don't want to buy grub killer or use a mole trap, put rose or berry thorns prongs down into the holes. Push until level with the ground to avoid stepping on them.

Put juicy friut gum in the holes. It has to be juicy friut in the yellow wrapper. Works.

If they are moles you have grub worms. You have to get rid of the worms to get rid of the moles. I usually leave them alone and let them do their thing. When they are finished they'll leave.

I have had this problem for several years and nothing has worked.

We had the same problem. They feed on grubs. If you put down grub killer they will leave as the food will be gone. Very simple and you can find some that is safe for kids and pets. No need to crush the tunnels or use fancy sonar. Very simple and very effective. We did it and haven't seen one in our yard for over 5 years! Good luck!
