The Chalk Paint Coffee Table - Colour Opinions Needed!

I recently bought this beautiful coffee table. I loved everything about it except the chalk paint distressed finished. It's a blue/grey paint with a coloured wax on top. I won't be stripping and refinishing this entire piece since I may sell it. I want to paint it but am really stuck on a colour. I do NOT want to use chalk paint or to paint it white in a shabby chic style. I've already stripped off all the wax and I thought that a light grey satin paint with some natural wood accents might be elegant. Or maybe red with a dark glaze. What would you suggest to transform this lovely old gal?

Why not strip the top back to the wood and leave the legs and frame as they are? Maybe add a little dark wax to the legs to blend in. You could try for a good natural wood finish to the top? I think if you are going to sell it, it can be very difficult to know what colour to go with since everyone's taste is so different and hard to know what will sell. Red could look lovely, and if that is a colour you love - then that is great but how many homes realistically have a colour scheme that a red coffee table will go with? I think if you want to sell, you need to either go really out there and hope you find the right buyer, or tailor it to be more generic so that it sells quickly? Just my thoughts and of course you must do what you think best. Love the little feet on this btw!

Jacqui? I'd love to see you work your majick with the red/dk glaze. With perhaps rubbing in a wee bit of gold to the round detail on the legs and middle details on the spindles under the table, to tie in with the fab feet. However, I'm not sure of your market, as far as colour. It's getting close to the holidays so that may help with the red/gold colour scheme. It would look extremely elegant and grand! Then again, it all depends on your market, and since everyone it seems has Grey, that may be the way to go for a quick sell. xox

@Porta Verde Studio I'm with you, I'd keep it! That table will be a beauty when you are finished!! I like the black concept, but love the red! Plus, I think the trunk is fabulous and will sell in a New York minute!!

@Jacki Whitfield Decoupage is lovely but I am not good at it. I have a friend who is very skilled and it looks terrific. on her boho pieces.

Black and use another color ie red, turquois, whatever on all the edgings. That would look stunning!

I just saw someone paint a table turquoise and then distress it with white on the edges. I had a beachy feel to it.

very pale turquoise with aqua trim would be beautiful, really depends where you want to put it in you home, or to sell x

The top needs to be hardy. I would suggest staining it and polyurethane. Or painting it and polyurethane. It needs to be able to handle wear and tear. You could wax over the polyurethane to tone it done or use a eggshell finish. But I think the colors are beautiful right now. And you have a eye for color is whatever you do it will be beautiful!
