Take your outdated and boring old fireplace up a notch. Let me show you how easy this transformation is!

Our entire house is made with recycled brick. It's organey and yellow and red and it's BRITTLE. The outside of the home wasn't properly taken care of since it was built in the early 60's. The brick was never sealed and now we are paying the price. We've got brick pops all over the house and it's an expensive repair.

My dream is to one day have a stone fireplace with a traditional mantel. But, the budget doesn't allow for that as we have other repairs that take priority. The joys of adulthood, right?!?

Back in December of last year I got a hair up my butt {I was really BORED from recovering from surgery. I couldn't walk for about 12 weeks and was beginning to go CRAY CRAY}. So I got on my little scooter and painted the fireplace with Americana Decor Everlasting. It covered up the ugly recycled brick, but, it just needed something.

A friend of mine, Becki, had just bought a house and showed me a picture of her fireplace that she painted. It was the inspiration that I needed. I ended up visiting Becki's house and seriously came home the next day and tackled this project.

Having done A LOT of other projects around my house with chalky finish from Americana Decor I grabbed the 3 colors that I had used along with three separate paint brushes and went to town! I grabbed a brush and would paint a brick, grab another and paint the next brick until it was continued. If I wasn't sure if a brick needed to be light or dark, I went with light and would come in and fill the dark ones in last. I didn't want to much of the dark blue, but, it needed it for the contrast.

I hope you love the fireplace just as much as I do. I've received so many compliments on it and LOVE LOVE LOVE my living room now! And can someone tell me who puts a fireplace in a CORNER of the room?!? I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that one.

QUESTION: I have the "fake" brick on a kitchen wall. Will the chalk paint work on it?

Fabulous re-do! Painting over brick can be daunting. We're considering it for our exterior......so nervous about that, but also SO ready!

Thank you so much. A neighbor had their brick home painted over 20 years ago and it looks great to this day. I'm just not sure about the product lasting that long now adays! Good luck on your project.

Yes it should. Just make sure that you clean it well with Simple Clean or Krud Kutter so that it doesn't show any stains.
