I love flipping through home decor catalogs for Halloween decorations but can never quite convince myself to pay the sky-high prices. I decided to make this easy Mummy Luminary that looks just like a high end candle holder but cost less than $3.00!
I couldn't stop drooling over the adorable Halloween luminaries in the 2015 Pottery Barn fall catalog. The mummy luminaries are the perfect mix of spooky and sweet. They set the Halloween mood without scaring kids.
I wanted to order some for my Halloween mantle... until I saw the $24.50 price tag! I decided that I needed to try making them myself.
Quick riddle... what do mummies and salsa have in common? The answer... absolutely nothing -- except that the jar my favorite salsa comes in and the Pottery Barn luminary are nearly the exact same size. Score!

Prepare the jars by removing the labels, any sticky residue and any expiration dates printed on the jar. (You can use any glass jar for this project, I prefer one that is about 5 inches tall with a 3 inch diameter. )
Quick riddle 2... what do mummies and cheese have in common? The answer... the mummy luminary is wrapped in fabric that looks suspiciously like cheesecloth, the gauze like fabric used to make cheese and yogurt.
Prepare the cheesecloth by cutting it into strips.
Gather your supplies including paint, glue, cheesecloth, a paintbrush, and black paper or vinyl. Get all the supply list details in the full post: Easy Mummy Luminary
Prepare the jars with paint and glue.
Attach the cheesecloth to the jar, add eyes, and dry completely.

Add a battery operated candle to gently illuminate the mummy.
Enjoy your new, value-priced Halloween decoration. I'm not sure what I love more, my new mummy decorations or the savings.

Where did you use paint? You mentioned it in your instructions but it isn't on your supply list. These are adorable, btw!
