Paper Flooring question.

Hello, I am obsessed with putting a paper flooring in my kitchen, how ever I would like to use newspaper or trans tint dye instead of a normal stain. Do you think either would be possible? Thanks in advance.

Not so sure about type of finish your looking to use, but doing a paper type of floor in an area that needs to be cleaned on a regular basis and I assume that gets a lot of traffic every day. I do not think the surface will wear very well. Comments anyone on this?

As a small kitchen, it is not an eat-it. Also it is placed in the back of the house so it does not get walked through. The dining room is where all my traffic is. Thank you for that thought though, as I was going to do the dining room if the kitchen worked out.

I did my kitchen with the brown paper bag treatment and it turned out fairly nice (looked like brown flagstone). It is NOT waterproof however! And if you aren't careful about smoothing out the wrinkles, there will be raised areas which can get torn. If you decide to try it, make sure you take the time to smooth the paper out (perhaps with a brayer) and use a good strong glue. Even though the instructions say to water it down, I would use it undiluted. I would also suggest sealing it with a very thick sturdy sealant to protect it from water and wear. Would LOVE to see pics of your finished floor!

i did my living room and dining room with the torn brown craft paper. Used elmers glue diluted with water (not 50/50). Applied mixture with brush on floor first, put paper then brushed glue mixture on paper. I used a yellow 3" squeegee to get wrinkles out. Once floor is dry, i applied 2 coats of polyurethane..let dry between coats. Your choice of matte, high gloss. I have had my floor for 3 years now and I live in Florida. No problems and cleaning us a breeze. My sewing/craft room I used multi colored tissue paper. Same process but used foam roller. Good luck and have fun!

I would go with at least three coats of an oil based Poly for durability. As a hardwood and tile contractor however, I would never recommend anything BUT tile for a kitchen. I have done many repairs due to minor leaks...the leak is minor...but the repair is not. A slow drip from the ice maker line, dishwasher, sink etc. Can cause extensive and expensive wood floor repairs. I have yet to do a single repair to a tiled kitchen.
