Storing sugar and flour in bulk

I don't know about you but when I buy sugar , flour coffee etc.... I get the 5lb bag. It would be nice to be able to find some pretty canisters that are able to hold the entire 5 lbs for each thing. My style is beach colors, cottage, farmhouse, white, or just simple. You have any ideas let me know.

I store mine in plain clear glass commercial size mayonaise jars. I get them at thrift stores. You could paint them, but I like mine clear so I know what's in them and how much is left. They look good with my cottage decor.

We make our own hummingbird food with sugar and boiling water . So we buy sugar in 25 pound bags . We use our '' Food Saver " to package sugar in smaller sizes for storage and convenience .While vacuum sealing each bag , we flatten the contents so they will stack better . It has worked great fo us for several years now . It saves money by buying the larger size bags . The sugar bags can be washed and re-used over and over . The humming birds love it too .

I've seen really big mason jars and something like glass crocks with lift-off lids at Walmart. (I tried to convince myself I needed them, but failed They are nice!)

I upcycle plastic jars that had treats like pretzels (from warehouse club). Just a hint, put your flour in freezer for a week before storing. Kills any larvae which may be present.

I'm a cook, so I'm used to dealing with 25# of flour, sugar, brown sugar, etc. I bought large food grade plastic containers like I use at the job, and store them in the pantry. You could store them in a closet, stacking them on top of each other. I'll share a hint that I learned decades ago... For flour, sugar, etc throw in a few whole bay leaf, it'll keep any weevils, etc away. As for the brown sugar, go to store, I'm not sure if WalMart carries them, but I know Bed Bath & Beyond does, pick up several "brown sugar bears" or whatever shapes you like. You soak the "bsb" in a bowl of water. I leave it overnight. Remove and dry them off, and then insert them in various layers in the brown sugar. You will NEVER have hard lumpy brown sugar again! Anything that has a tight seal will work. I don't have a lot of room on the counter, so the containers work great for me.

Sounds nice but brown sugar softens nicely with just a few seconds in the microwave also! I will be utilizing your "bay leaf" idea, love that!

I also put whole bay leafs or is it leaves? Anyway, I place a few on each shelf in my cabinets. Again, it keeps any bugs away.
