A Privacy Fence Room Divider: Covering up an Outdoor Eye Sore

I have all this ugly electrical conduit right by my front door and I've been at the drawing board about this problem all last winter before I finally had a light bulb moment! I had one extra fence panel leftover from when I put up my privacy fence so I thought I could make something like a room divider out of it… I got to work.

The extra fence panel I had was lying out in the dog kennel so I went and grabbed it.

With my reciprocating saw I cut the privacy fence panel into three separate pieces. There were three supporting boards across the back of the entire panel, so each needed to be cut. Each cut section ended up with four fence “slats” on it. That left me with two “slats” leftover which turned out to be a very good thing.

As room dividers go I knew I needed to put three hinges on one side and three hinges on the other so it would “fold” in opposite directions so it would stand on its own. (I purchased just basic outdoor hinges on sale at Ace hardware for this job and used small outdoor screws.)

I was not worried about the one broken off slat as I knew I would be burying this “room divider” well into the ground so it wouldn’t blow over so the broken slat would never show.

I grabbed some leftover flat white paint I had and just did a fast dry brush over the entire things. I kept telling myself to make sure it wasn’t “perfect” in any way. I really wanted it to look like it had been here for fifty years like everything else.

All in – I am happy with how this turned out and it seems like this could be a great solution for outdoor eye sores just about anywhere.

! your idea is great! I guess a disguise on the update could help.? If you do not like my comment please answer and I will delete it or if you know how to delete it, please do it.

My suggestion is that the addition needs some disguise to match with the colors of your beautiful house, and the original arrow ends of the addition does not fit with the lines of the house. May be just... cut the arrow ends of the pieces..cut them at different length? .. or match the color with the house ? or convert it in a colorful ... drawing to express your artist background. Please remind me to delete this message... I don't know how to send you a direct one. Regards ..

If I missed it I apologize, but why use hinges if you buried it in the soil? I thought that they where used to make it accessible if needed.

I love this! I think it looks awesome and I appreciate you sharing your idea with everyone. Usually when I read a post like this I try to look at ways I can incorporate the ideas around my own home. If the poster ASKS FOR OPINIONS OR ADVICE, and I feel I can contribute, I might comment. But if someone simply shares a project they did at their own home, and they don't ask for advice, I dont advise. Just drop a supportive note or ask a question about technique or materials. Have a great day
