What is this thing called?

Hey guys I'm planning a makeover of this "plant hanger thingy" that's been in this yard for decades but despite constant searching I can't figure out the name of it. I know they're common enough that they must have a name? Anyone know?

What you have is a six sided shepards hook. Ace Hardware, Truevalue, garden centers, and big box stores sell some.

every farm yard had these for hanging flower pots on. My neighbor has one of the old fashion on and it is made out of hay racks . Men would make them during the winter when there wasn't much to do

That sounds exactly like this one then - it has certainly been in this old farm yard for at least forty years.

I have one of these in my yard. It's called a Hay Rack. We painted ours all white & hung the round planters on it, I changed plants/flowers for the seasons. Mine is 52 years old. It's real heavy, mine came from a farmer. It'not one from today. Mine has the 2 layers for planters. Sherry H :)

If you paint it, you should use Rust Oleum spay paint. I plant all Petunias in summer. When they die back I use the large Pansies. Good luck with what ever you choose, it will be beautiful. I used matching pots by spray painting those too. I you do decide to use it it should be stuck down in a 7or 8 inch pipe in the ground (in the hole) to steady it.

You could add some bird feeders or a hummingbird feeder

It's a Shepherd's Hook. Maybe you can sand it down, repaint it and use it for something...

Yup that's what I'm thinking, maybe a bird feeder or I could try hanging flowers from it too...

You should paint with Rust Oleum. Keep it, newer ones aren't that nice. Valuable! Sherry H. :)

I was thinking different colors of Petunias in Summer and when they die back, replace with colorful Pansies. Sherry H. :)
