I know Perovskia can be a nuisance in some parts of the country, but I know many a gardener who would like to have the problem of too-abundant lavender.

  @Douglas Hunt I found a small silver coloured plant in our mountain garden that at first looked like a weed. I almost pulled it out. Then smelled it and realised it was lavender. I did not plant it there, seems to have come up of its own accord. It is now growing and flowering and is clearly lavender. Whilst I love it, I do note your comments that it can spread to where it is not wanted (we have a garden abutting bushland in the mountains). Is there a way to keep it contained other than pulling it up as I would love to have it in the garden but don't want it to spread into the bush (which is primarily gum forest). We have enough invasive plants and noxious weeds in the bush already such as Cotoneaster, Montbretia, Ivy, Holly, Blackberry and so on. Even Agapanthus are considered a weed where we are.

  @Carole Actually my comment was that I've never heard of lavender self-sowing and causing a problem. I don't think you have anything to worry about it, but plants behave differently everywhere and I really don't know how lavender behaves in Australia. However, if you deadhead it soon after blooming, you will not have to worry about seedlings.

Believe it or not, lavender can be a nuisance too. I pul them up by the dozens but my fingers smell good:)
