I have a lot of paintings by my grandfather and I don't want to take away from the beauty by framing them. Looking for ideas of how to display them.
These are just a few of the paintings. There are about 8 more. They are all of Lake Superior or Marquette, MI.

Check out these frames. Studio Décor® Basics Clip Frame at Michaels. It might work for you. Looks like it would only cover the corners and maybe a thin line along the edges.

Are you saying they aren't on the normal "wrapped" type of canvases? That they are on canvas boards?? In other words, they aren't on the kind of canvas that has "sides". If that's what you are saying, then you could easily glue (with E6000) your paintings on to canvases the corresponding size then attach a "sawtooth" or wire type hanger on the back. You will, naturally, have white canvas showing on the sides but you can easily paint the sides yourself with a craft paint. A lot of paintings are just painted black (then I'd suggest you paint them all black) OR if you don't like that idea, pick a color that blends with the scene. In looking at the above photo, if you didn't want black on the sides, paint the right lower one in a blue and the others could have green sides. The craft paint is only about $2 per bottle. To save money, look first at Walmart and Dollar stores for canvases (with the wrapped sides) or watch for deals (and coupons) for Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc.

PS: I've been painting a few years now and often find that the PROPER frame doesn't take away from the beauty of a painting but, rather, enhances it. If you are open to framing eventually, go to reuse stores - they have tons of old perfectly-good frames.

Would frame photos in clear plexi no frames, buy shelf that has a ridge on it so you can display them. My son displayed his old postcard collection this way, turned out awesome. Probably can buy at Michaels, Hobby Lobby or on line, hope that helps

You are right, since paintings are oil, my bad. Can take them to a shop who specializes in oils, to get suggestions, may not be that pricey since they are small. Then can display on easel or wall shelf ! Good Luck To!

You could also glue a flat hanger on the back of the painting when it is done on flat masonite " canvass".

They are beautiful paintings but the mountains are not Lake Superior. Your grand dad was an awesome artist.

You could use a little dish display "easel" and place on tables or shelves. You could also put a large frame on your wall & then hang the grouping inside of it. That way you could put a frame light on the big frame highlighting the pictures.

You could take a large piece of reclaimed wood and mount the paintings together on it. It could be a beautiful display of your grandfather's work for many years to come as well as an amazing focal point for your home.

These are precious! If you have around 11 of them. I would mount them in groups of three. You could put them into a slim chrome frame or whatever color works with your interior. I don't think a thin frame would take away from the artwork. You could rotate them out every 6 months and get a whole new appreciation for them. I paint and have a lot of them also. I rotate them so I don't get tired of one. Here is an example. http://eyecapture.files.wordpress.com/2014/02...
